My new layout design.
« on: December 07, 2014, 10:37:26 PM »
I have been busy for quite some time designing my new layout.
Of course space is never big enough, I have HO so some space is needed.
Have a room that measures 7.8m x 2.65m.
Not enough >:D, but lets see what we can get into that space.
I hope that the plans show here, designed with Wintrack in Märklin K Track.
First the stagging yard lowest level.
The two tracks going nowhere are in fact for a special purpose.
Will explain later.

Okay seems that with the kind help of Loovile I have finally learnt to ad pics from a image hosting site. :thumb:
This is the second level of the staging yard.
Consideration during design and very important to me are relative wide radius turns, the sharpest radius that I am using is 553 mm, wide radius turnouts 902mm and long staging tracks as I enjoy watching long unit goods trains.
My longest passenger train is the Santa Fe ABA F7 Märklin set with 10 passenger coaches. 3.2 meters of awesome train. 8)
Goods trains I will have at least 2 over to 4 meters in length.

Do a screen print and then load that up as a JPG.

For the rest - just do a "alt + PrtScn" (print screen button) and ctrl + V into MS Paint. You can then select part or the whole image and save it as a JPG.

The upper level of my planned layout.
The different colours are the different levels. So you can follow the levels by the colours. Lowest level orange, becoming green and then grey which is the main level/station. The blue section will be the highest point and fully visible.
I will need to scratch build at least one big bridge.
The left side will be mountains with a castle in the top left hand corner.
One beer brewery and a sawmill with track loading facility.
A small lake with a few houses around it is also a scene that I like.
So now I am open for comments, criticism and whatever you want to throw at me. ;)

Very, very nice, I like it....  :thumb:

What's happening between the Station and the turntable ? Just landscape ?

I have a few ideas for this, but am also open to suggestions.
One of my ideas is to have a road pass under the station and then to have a few shops under the station in the Arches of the Wall see attached pic.

Towards the back maybe a bit of a town scene.
Jörg.

In my first post in this thread I mentioned that I will explain about those 2 tracks going to nowhere.
In Germany, I suppose that you could import them if you have the cash, you can buy a product called Train Safe. www.train-safe.de
I liked this idea very much, but could not afford it. So I built my own.  :thumb:
That's what these two tracks are for, one for bringing the train onto the layout and the other for taking it off.
Here are some pics how I built these train tubes.
This extends my staging yard and instead of hiding the trains under the layout I get to see them in a display any day.

A good idea indeed! I have seen these for myself and they are beautiful to say the least.
