Good Morning All,

So I have entered my SawMill for a competition  :biggrin:
This means that I had to build a base to make it presentable.

This is what I have done this week.
I took two thin pieces of Styrofoam and cut the top one for the profile for the lake.
Then I covered everything with a thin layer of CreatStone and Woodglue mixture. (very thin layer, woodglue will prevent it from cracking)
Then I painted it earth brown and added grass and ground cover.
A section of track was added and I cut some wood strips to cover the sleepers.
I have also finished painting the water, still have to add the resin water (will have a dark brown tint in)
Bushes and trees and a few other details must still be added. Should be finished by the ens of the weekend  :biggrin:

Good Morning All,

So I worked a little bit more over the weekend.
Added a few trees and bushes around the Sawmill.
I also added some detail - sawdust and some stacked timber as well as some off-cuts or wood that needs to be sorted out.

Think it is starting to look very nice now.

I will have to make them little shorter, but the idea is to have some logs in the water yes.
I want to do something like the picture below.

Good Morning All.....

OK, so the water......
I normally use the WoodlandScenics Realistic water, but at almost R500 per bottle I do not think so  :(

Resin  :biggrin:
I wanted to tint the water brown as wood colour the water brown in real life too.
So I added some colour to the resin, I tested it and it looks OK, but when I poured it it came out a little bit to solid.
But it is what it is, I'll make it much lighter on my actual layout.

I have also added the frame around it.
Next I have to paint it black and add some ripples to the water.
Then this is pretty much finished.

I think you should not add any tint to the resin. The colour you did up front on the "ground level" of the dame would have been enough and the resin also add a little light brown colour to it. Before  you do your layout, first experiment with it as clear. I think it will be enough.

Regarding your base for you sawmill, just need to wrap it with little planks and paint it black.

What an awesome project. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Last night I added the some more details and finishes. The sawdust with the cover half pulled open and the two guys working.
I also created and printed the date plate. (Pic05)
I added a rope to the log that is busy getting pulled in for cutting.

What an awesome journey and learned so much.
I also have to say thank you to Arno for the Laser cutting and Neil for the 3D Printing  :thumb:
